Christina Zwart Art / At-Risk Kids

Donation protected
My name is Christina Zwart and I'm an installation artist living and working in Wayland, MA. For my first show opening April 1 at the Boston Sculptors Gallery, I'm building a piece made out of approximately 4,000 1.5-inch pink/purple kinetic sand pyramids. I'm placing them on a wooden platform that will "hover" 3 inches above the gallery floor.

The show runs until May 3, 2015 and, when it closes, I will be donating the 300+ lbs. of sand to the SPARK Center in Boston. The Center serves the city's highest-risk children age 0-5 who are living with complicated medical conditions (neuro-developmental challenges, low birth weight, failure to thrive and HIV/AIDS) and significant family and social concerns (child abuse and neglect, domestic violence and adult substance abuse).

The staff at the Center will use the sand in their occupational, physical and art therapy programs to help the children with fine motor skill development, sensory processing, drawing and pre-writing skills, creative thinking, pretend play, increased attention spans, speech and language development and to introduce a sense of calm.

I'm hoping you'll consider contributing to the cost of the sand which, ultimately, will enable these children to build foundations that will help them make healthy choices, cope with emotional problems, thrive in school and achieve success as adults.

In advance, a huge thanks for whatever you might be able to give!
