Out in Education
in Education is a not-for-profit that delivers workshops, lessons and assemblies about homophobia and what is means to be lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender to primary and secondary schools across the UK. This includes topics such as: stereotypes, cyber-bullying, offensive language, different families and healthy relationships. We also help schools create effective pupil-led anti-bullying policies.
We source volunteers from active University LGBT Networks across the UK to deliver these workshops in conjunction with the schools we go into. We feel as though this student-led and pupil-sustained approach is what leads the project to be so successful.
We have worked with local education authorities and been into over 50 schools in the UK. The positive impact that Out in Education has on pupils at schools we go into can be seen through Ofsted reports, schools that have displayed pupils' anti-bullying policies at their school and our continued visits to schools in the area.
Out in Education is a not-for-profit and none of our staff or volunteers make a wage.
Your money will be used exclusively to achieve three aims:
1) To expand to different areas and give us the opporunity to visit schools that have contacted us from across the country. This includes the Isle of Man and the Scottish Highlands.
2) We will also be publishing an anthology of children's stories and poems centred about diversity.
3) We will run an event in conjunction with LGBT youth groups for teachers and PGCE students with the aim of improving collaboration, developing classroom resources and raising awareness of homophobia and transphobia in schools.
With your help we can visit more schools and tackle homophobia and transphobia on school campuses across the UK.
