Every Girl Can STEM Conference

In 2006 I created Every Girl Can, a life skills, personal development program for teen girls to teach them the skills necessary to find their voice, build confidence and embrace a healthy body image and "can-do" attitude.
I chose the name Every Girl Can because I wanted to include all girls, everywhere around the world who need to build their self confidence and self esteem. The program had a very successful launch at Takoma Park Middle School, located in Silver Spring, Maryland in January, 2007. Please click here to read the Gazette newspaper article.
Through creative, fun hands-on activities and modular instruction, the program Enriches, Elevates, Encourage, Empowers and Inspire girls to beleive in themselves and succeed at anyting they set their minds to and work hard to achieve.
Inspired by a girls' conference I attended in November, 2007, I was moved to develop the Every Girl Can "SMART Image" Confernce. This meant reaching even more girls and the opportunity to invite other women to contribute thier time and talent. Now an annual event, the confernce is always free for girls. It is my way of giving back to the community and sharing the blessings, gifts and talents that have enriched my life.
So far, six conference have been held, reaching hundreds of girls from around the Washington D.C. Metro Area and engaging business and professional women and community leaders from a braod rage of disciplines. At the 2013 conference we introduced the STEMtastic theme and it was a big hit, thanks to some awesome presenters and moderators.
The girls loved hearing from successful engineers, scientists, doctors, IT, futurists and other STEM professionals. The conference also included, arts and culture to give the girls a rounded expeience.
None of the speakers or volunteers are paid. The girls are given a bag of goodies donated by friends and supporters of the program. We have also provided breakfst and lunch , a craft gift to take home to mom and the Every Girl Can T-Shirt whenever our budget can cover the cost.
Our goal is to keep touching the lives of teen girls to help them be better prepared to make smart choices and succeed in college, career and community.
The 7th Annual Every Girl Can "SMART Image" Conference is scheduled to be held at Montgomery College, Silver Spring Campus on Saturday, May 2, 2015. The event is FREE for girls in 5th 8th grade. women/parents/educators/teachers are also invited.
