One Punch Can Kill

My name is Alex Holderness; I am 22 years old and live in Dewsbury. I am currently raising money for a sponsored skydive that I will be doing on 29th August 2015 in Hibaldstow, Lincolnshire . The small charity is known as ‘One Punch Can Kill’ which originally started up in Australia due to a number of fatal assaults occurring in Queensland.
"On May 5th 2009 Kyle Bartlett was fatally injured in an alcohol fuelled fight in the Walkabout Bar in Portsmouth. His mother, supported by the Safer Portsmouth Partnership has been campaigning to reduce alcohol related violence in the night time economy through education in schools/colleges and through the education of licensees, bar staff and door staff."
West Yorkshire police are now raising awareness in the local community to help prevent violent attacks on individuals, thus creating a safer environment.
Most fatal attacks that relate to this charity have happened on night outs, where lots of alcohol has been consumed and people are unaware of their actions. This could be prevented if more people are advised to drink responsibly and that they are aware of their limits. However, some attacks happen where no alcohol is involved. People are unaware that their fists can be used as weapons and can lead to the loss of a life. I know families that have had to deal with the loss of a loved one and the affect this can have on the families is devastating.
I aim to contact various organisations and individuals to ask for sponsorship for this skydive and raise more awareness about ‘One Punch Can Kill’. I will also be contacting my local newspaper once I gain more sponsorship to continue spreading the message but also to remind people that specific organisations and individuals are supporting the campaign and can hopefully lead to less crime in the area.
