Architecture Summer Study Abroad

This is a 4-week program to London, Paris and Barcelona led by UW Architectural Engineering faculty. The goals of the program are for students to learn about the past, present and future of architecture, engineering, and urbanism by experience and in context, rather than remotely.
Two courses are offered: ARE 3030 History of Architecture and ARE 4920 Modern Enginering. For ARE 3030, we explore architectural history by site visits to important buildings and museums, with lectures and independent ‘discovery’ assignments. “Modern Engineering” involves extensive visits to the offices of top-level architects and engineers, tours of new buildings and construction sites, and independent research projects which build upon those visits.
The cost of flights is significantly higher this year, while study abroad scholarship opportunities have been reduced. We have 15 students and are hoping to raise $1000 per student. The funds we raise will go directly towards offsetting the student costs.
