Oasis Food-Watering the Food Desert

Donation protected
We are a group of four University of Maryland students who are taking part in the Do Good Challenge. For this challenge, we are to develop and carry out a project with as much social impact as possible in 8 weeks.

For our project, we are investigating nutrition in local food deserts, which are typically low-income areas with little access to supermarkets or other sources of fresh food. In order to do so, we will be teaming up with the Tent City Tailgate Party  to distribute 150 meals to homeless and low-income residents of Baltimore City. We will be distributing on March 22nd and April 5th, 2015.

We are going to serve two dishes: a grain salad and a vegetable chili. We have selected these meals because they can be produced with healthy, local produce and ingredients. As we serve the food, we will speak with residents about their interest in having more healthy options in their diets, to gauge the value of a long-term project in this area.

In order to prepare and serve these meals, we will need approximately $300 for supplies and ingredients. For this reason, we are kindly asking for your donations.

Every two dollars serves a healthy meal!

In return, you can follow our work on Facebook! We will be posting photos and updates as we prepare & carry out our distributions. Thank you for your support!
