I have been cast in this year's National Youth Music Theatre's (NYMT) production of Pendragon; playing this summer at the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmonds (directed by Jeremy James Taylor OBE).
NYMT has been dubbed 'the finest youth music theatre in the world' by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and offers exceptional opportunities for talented young performers. Alumni include Idris Elba, Sheridan Smith, Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law and following in their footsteps would be amazing.
Why £10,000?
1. I need £2000 to cover for my course fees and accommodation at NYMT. The course consists of one week in Tonbridge, Kent and two weeks in Bury St Edmonds, with the final performance days included at the end of those two weeks. NYMT aim to keep the cost as low as possible but these costs add up.
2. I would then like to donate a further £2000 to the NYMT bursary fund, to enable funding for someone else’s experience at NYMT, who may not be able to fundraise or afford it.
3. Finally, I would like to create a charity to enable more children and young people to have access to the arts. Paying for tickets, workshops and transport to plays, musicals or concerts can be extremely expensive. I am lucky to be able to do this fairly frequently, and I would like more kids to experience this.
Being offered a place in this company has been the catalyst for my further fundraising. I am extremely focussed and have worked hard over the last few years to become a more accomplished performer and I would love to be able to work with the extremely talented individuals at NYMT. Participating in this show would help me prepare for a successful career in the arts. However, I believe that the arts should be accessible to more young people and a charity to help with this I feel, is definitely needed.
