My name is Kuʻuipo and I am from Kona. I am currently in the Masterʻs Program at Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani in Hilo. This is my second year in the program and my focus is on Hawaiian Language and Literature. In this program, it is a requirement for us to go on a trip overseas to another indigenous community and learn about the history of their language and culture and compare it to Hawaiʻi. I am going to Polapola in July to do my research. It was difficult for me to seek funding because my trip would be in the summertime and not the regular fall or spring semester. Because of lack of funds I am seeking assistance from the community. Funds will cover travel expenses and educational supplies needed for my trip. Mahalo for your kōkua and I appreciate your time.

I've also been on Mauna a Wakea for the past few months when this movement for Mauna Kea and aloha 'aina started. I've been documenting everyday and have recently made this movement my master's thesis. I am planning on learning the history and culture of Polapola as well as their mauna kapu. Mauna Kea has changed me in so many ways and I couldn't be more happier to be doing my master's work on this movement. Ku Kia'i Mauna!

Here is a description of the requirement:
HWST 690 Study in Overseas Ind Lg Comm (3) Individual off-campus field work experience in an overseas endangered indigenous language community. Participant-observation and interviewing to learn about endangered status of the language and ongoing revitalization work. Comparison to Hawaiian as an endangered language.
