On Tuesday, February 24th, Katie started a wonderful adventure of bicycling across country. She was excited for this adventure and to begin a new chapter in her life!
However, on March 4th around 3pm, her adventure came to an end. She was hit by a truck and rushed to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center in the trauma unit.
Update on March 5th: She had surgery on her elbow to put it back in place and under the skin, which was successful. She had 2 MRIs done – one on lower back and one on neck, still waiting results. She has to lay flat to keep everything still. She has shattered her left shoulder and broken many bones in her left hand. She will have hand surgery tomorrow and another MRI tomorrow on her left knee. She cannot move her left leg at all. She is very positive and hoping for a swift recovery. Bob, her father, is on his way to Arizona now.
Update on March 6th: Tests are looking good, mostly just tons of scrapes and bruises. Broken elbow has been worked on and is healing. Left shoulder is fracture, but looks to heal nicely. Nose is fractured but looks to heal nicely. Left hand surgery later today. Xray on left knee showed no broken bones, but going to have an MRI done to check on ligaments. She is still laying completely flat. Hopefully will start therapy in a couple days to work on sitting. Depending on how she reacts to movement will depend on how long she is there, minimum 5 more days, but could be 2 more weeks.
Katie is such a wonderful, sweet, caring, STRONG, and independent woman! If anyone can get through this tough time, it's her! Unfortunately, since she was in-between jobs, her high deductible COBRA insurance will leave her with numerous medical bills. If you feel so inclined to help, she would greatly appreciate anything you donate, along with prayers and best wishes.
