The State of the Union

Join me on a transcontinental artistic journey spanning Route 66 from the Sunshine State to the Big Apple - depicting the complexity of everyday people's lives, beliefs and most importantly, hairstyles!

Have you ever found yourself judging someone based solely on the way they look? Or had the feeling that you yourself are being judged? It is my goal to open your eyes to new possibilities.

Is that shoddily dressed man who looks like a bum really a millionaire with a Ferrari in his driveway? You might be surprised! But unless we take the time to ask, to dig deep into the narrative of his life - we may never really know.

My name is Jennifer Baker and I am a successful hairstylist and entrepreneur, currently working alongside the pre-eminent photographer Gilad Sasporta, who is admired for shooting the recent cover of Flaunt Magazine, the current cover of Vogue, and his successful blog "Baby you can drive my car," which can be viewed at www.sasporta.com.

My love of the arts, genuine curiosity, authentic appreciation for the diversity of thought, opinion and lifestyle choices that make people so intriguing - along with Gilad's artistic renderings - has ignited my passion to help break down the stereotypes we face on a daily basis. What greater way is there to build bridges and empower dialogue between people than by revealing - at our very core - that there is beauty within and that our common pains and struggles can help unite us.

We live in a polarized world and it is my dream to help break down the stereotypes that divide us. Just a special touch here, a visionary haircut there, or a stylistic makeover somewhere can make all the difference in upgrading someone's life for the better - revealing previously unrealized potential for good.

In pursuing our vision, Gilad and I will be embarking on a one-of-a-kind  journey, traveling from California to New York along the famous Route 66, depicting – through photographs and blog posts – the distinctive lives of everyday people. We will be gathering their opinions, revealing their idiosyncrasies, learning their beliefs, and of course … displaying their unique hairstyles and personalities.

This project is inspired by the iconic work of Richard Avedon, and his trend-setting picture documentary "In the American West."

At the end of the trip, there will be a live gallery presentation from our journey in picture and postscript, generating conversation, thought and social media buzz around the fascinating lives of ordinary people.

I hope you will join me in helping sponsor this event. My goal is to raise $5000 to sponser the trip. 10% of all proceeds will go to feedingamerica.org, to help our fellow Americans in need. Don’t miss out on this truly unique and innovative opportunity.

Tune in to INDIE 103.1 for a special endorsement by the famous producer/songwriter/radio personality Native Wayne also known as Wayne Jobson.

I appreciate you taking the time to read about my proposal and I would love the opportunity to speak with you. Let’s do this together and make a difference!
