From the city to the farm

My parents live in Missouri. I live in L.A. with my husband and two daughters. While video conferencing and more frequent visits have helped, giving my mom and dad the support they need cross country is really difficult. In additon to that, we are done, done I say, with the rat race of the L.A. lifestyle. On a recent road trip through 11 states, I was inspired with a crazy idea. Could I "not a farm girl" pay cash for a small hobby farm, and with no mortgage, provide a simpler life for my family, while at the same time moving close to my parents to be support for them?
