Nonprofit Tutoring Program
Donation protected
We run a program called The Learning Project which aims to provide free high school tutoring to disadvantaged kids in the North shore region, on the philosophy that all children should be given an equal chance in life to succeed, and that there should be support available to people who need it.
The program is designed to support disadvantaged and at-risk young people in continuing and completing their studies by providing supervised, free one-on-one educational support.
Disadvantaged individuals in the area are often underrepresented and ignored due to stereotypes, and Randwick (the closest equivalent tutoring program) can be quite a long away for them. A program like this can be highly beneficial to students experiencing any hardship and are finding it difficult to muster ambition or motivation, or even students who are falling behind in school for a wide range of circumstances and do not have ready access to tutoring services already available.
The Learning Project takes place at the local alternative school on Wednesday afternoons. Students come in for an hour session with their assigned one to one tutor at an allocated time. Through this program, we have developed a strong rapport with the school and the local community.
Additionally, we are hoping to introduce a publication in the form of an online magazine, in order to showcase creative works and provide incentives for at risk young people to build their portfolios and encourage their creativity.
This year, one of our major goals is to register as an incorporated association. Your donations would contribute to funding costs that keep us going including public liability insurance ($2000 a year), registration costs (~$400), first aid certificates for our supervisor ($80 a year) and creating a website. Not only this, but if we raise enough money we will be able to pay our key volunteers and have them on board as employees, which will present us with the sustinability needed to grow and flourish.
Thank you for your time in contributing to making a positive difference to young people's lives.
