Help George Williams go to Barber School

Donation protected
On the evening of August 9, 2011, George Williams, then an inmate at the Attica Correctional Facility was brutally beaten by as many as twelve guards. His crime? Guards charged in the brutal assault thought that he had yelled "shut the f*** up" at them during their evening mail call.

Three guards later pulled him out of his cell, led him to a day room and mercilessly began beating him. Other guards were called in. It has been said that as many as 12 guards were involved in the assault. Guards were then seen planting a razor blade at the scene of the beating. Williams was then handcuffed, told to walk, and thrown down a flight of stairs when he could not comply, as both his legs were broken. The beating left him with a broken shoulder, several cracked ribs, a severe fracture of the orbit surrounding his left eye, and both legs broken.

All of this because someone, (not Mr. Williams, according to witnesses) yelled an expletive at a guard that night.

Four guards were charged with first-degree gang assault in addition to felony charges of filing false reports and tampering with evidence.

Three plead guilty to a SINGLE MISDEMEANOR charge and agreed to quit their jobs. The charges against the fourth were dropped.

As someone who grew up in Attica New York, I think it is only fitting that we, the members of the community that surrounds the prison stand up firmly against the inhumane treatment of fellow human beings. We cannot take back the actions of the guards on duty that night. We cannot erase the pain and suffering needlessly inflicted on Mr. Williams. All we can do is try to bring a little bit of justice to a world that all too often turns a blind eye to things of this nature.

Let's help Mr. Williams attend Barber School, and show him and the rest of the world that we are not all bad. Let's help him get a second chance.
