Help Charlie (Rabbit) See ENDED

Why do we need to Raise Money for Charlie?
We are raising money to help us pay for  a cataract operation on both of Charlie's eyes so that he can see again and play with his friends in the garden. Insurance will already pay £1,100 towards Charlie's operation - we just need to raise the other £400.

Who are We?
We are a small scale rabbit sanctuary providing a home for rabbits that have either come from other rescues or direct from homes where they are unwanted or neglected. We also take in wild bunnies that cannot be re-released for whatever reason. We currently have 29 rabbits.

Charlie's Story:
Charlie came to us four years ago   supposedly as a  short term foster whilst his owner moved houses. He soon became a permanent resident when his owner never  came back for him.

Last year Charlie started to develop  cataracts  after contracting E.cunniculi  and for the last six months he  has been completely blind. Although many rabbits cope well with blindness Charlie is very unhappy. He is a  timid bunny due to being bullied by his partner before he came here (we had to split them when they arrived as she attacked him constantly which the other owner had not done anything about) and he is scared of not being able to see.

Although Charlie loves his two new friends (Peaches and Parsley Piert), when they go outdoors to play in the garden or even into another roon,  Charlie sits and looks lost as he is not confident enough to move from the very small space he knows now he is blind. He used to love playing outside and in the rest of the house with them, and so it is very sad to see him sitting  alone and scared unable to see anything . We have waited to see if he would improve but he hasn't and with summer coming his friends will be outside playing often.

Our vet has referred Charlie to the Royal Veterinary College who carry out operations on rabbit cataracts. The cost is £1,400  for the consultations and operation  and then about  £100 for follow ups at our own specialst vets. A total of £1,500.

Charlie has always been insured by us through PetPlan, but as he is 7 years old we have to pay the first £100 plus 20% of the total - so about £400 of the £1,500 total,  and we simply cannot afford this. We have twenty nine bunnies in our care at present and last year spent thousands on their care and vets bills.

EDIT: Charlie's operation has now been done thanks to everyone BUT was more complicated than they thought and cost £1,900 plus the follow ups - so we have had to adjust our total fund aim to £520. It is so hard to fundraise after the event but we need to pay the bill now!!

Charlie can now see again from one of his eyes thanks to everyone that donated!! See updates for results of the operation - we do still need to raise the extra though . . .

Please help Charlie see again.

Thank you

PS If anyone wants more details on Charlie , or EC, or the operation, or who we are,  please do contact me.

This is a picture of Charlie and his friends all together in the winter evenings - he would love to be able to play with them in the garden again rather than just sit and wait for them in darkness on the long summer  days.
