With Malia's trip to Tahiti coming up, she's been asking to try and start a GoFund me page to help raise money. So tonight, since this is her idea and trip, what better way than to let her tell you herself. Here she is.....
Hi everyone! I've been dancing since I was 4 and a half years old. I've tried ballet & tap, but nothing quite captured my heart and spirit like Hula & Tahitian did. No matter what was going on around me, my goal was always just to DANCE! That's how I've always expressed myself.
Over the years, one way I've been able to show that passion and love for Tahitian dance is through the many competitions you've seen me at over the years. Can you believe my 1st competition was when I was in Kindergarten! Now I'm in 7th grade and still dancing any chance I get!
I was lucky enough to even travel to Tahiti in 2012 with Nemenzo (now called Te Fare Upa Here) just days after my 10th Birthday. Performing on the To'ata stage and winning 3rd place in a competiton in Tahiti, was a dream. Since that trip, I've been hoping to go back one day to do it all over again. Guess what... I'm going back this July!
As you can imagine, it's pretty expensive. So I thought, now that I'm older (I'm 12 and will be 13 on July 1st!), I'd like to try to help raise money for my trip too. I want to do my part to help my Mama & Papa with costs. I've been selling candy, snacks and bracelets, but it's still not enough.
If you are able to donate, I'd be very appreciative. Any amount helps to cover my costs for Tahiti. If not, that is ok too. All I ask is that you keep myself, my group Te Fare Upa Here and the other groups from all around the world traveling to Tahiti this July in your thoughts and prayers as we get ready to take in the beauty and culture. Oh, and feel free to wish me luck too! :)
