There comes a time when you have to reach out for help, sometimes, and I guess this is our time, though it makes me uneasy to ask. Our daughter, Darcy, was found in December to have an "enlarged thyroid" during a routine visit. Blood tests were run, and we were told they were normal. But she didn't feel quite normal and certainly there was swelling where there shouldn't be, so we pressed to see a specialist. We waited over two months for this appointment, at which time she was found to have a mass. We got an ultrasound that day. and the specialist ordered a consultation with a surgeon and a biopsy. Those happened this past Monday, and the mass, though not conclusive for the most common type of thyroid cancer, was found to have irregular cells with abnormal growth rates. The surgeon wants to take it out and do a larger pathology study. It could be completely benign, or it could be a less common type of cancer. We, like many musicians, do not have insurance. This was our choice over the years as the monthly cost (even with high deductible) seemed to be prohibitive. Now we are faced with a large medical hurdle. I have prayed about this and done some real searching, and feel it is appropriate at this time to reach out to family and friends for help with this burden. If you can, and are comfortable to contribute a small amount, we would be so grateful. If you can't that is perfectly okay too. We appreciate any and all you can give including as much prayer as you can muster. The surgery is set for Tuesday, March 3 at 10:30 am.
