NAWS Angels for "Throwaway" Pets

NAWS is a no-kill humane society located in Mokena, Illinois, that has been serving pets in need since 2005.
We pride ourselves particularly on a couple of things that we believe set us apart from other animal shelter and rescue groups - we are willing to take homeless pets into our rescue program that have either short term or life long medical needs when other groups refuse them, and we also strive to create a welcoming, family-type of environment for our rescue pets to allow them to feel the comfort, respect and dignity they deserve while waiting to find their forever home, even if that forever home is with NAWS when no one else will look at them twice.
The reason of course that most groups will not take these pets into their program is the expensive medical cost, or because of the age or breed of the pet. NAWS has our own veterinary clinic, but we only specialize in low cost spay/neuter surgery or general wellness veterinary care.
So, when we bring pets into our NAWS family with medical needs, we end up paying for most of those services at other hospitals and specialty hospitals just like members of the public. This has become a very costly endeavor and we are struggling to be able to continue paying for these services, which means we are having to limit the number of pets we can help.
It truly does take an entire village of compassionate, animal loving people to make these dreams a reality - far more than the few of us that literally give every extra cent from our paychecks at other jobs to keep the doors open. We simply can no longer do this alone and we are desperately hoping to find other angels to help us help more fur babies in need.
We will share pictures and updates of our current hospice pets that are in end of life care, or our never ending list of dogs that are undergoing heartworm treatment, and then there are numerous cases needing special surgeries, blood transfusions, amputions, it just never ends..
