A family-of-eight have been left homeless after a blaze gutted their home.
The fire took hold of a detached property on Durnford Street near Middleton town centre in the early hours of Thursday.
Three crews, including standby teams drafted in to provide cover for a 24-hour national strike by firefighters, were sent to tackle the blaze at 12.10am.
They spent six hours fighting the flames with hoses, but the fire tore through the entire two-storey property.
The couple and their five children who lived there escaped before the emergency services arrived, but they have been left homeless.
