Save Thacher, Save Our Schools

Major Luin Kennedy Thacher was a decorated war hero, a Kansas City School board member and helped draft the Kansas City, MO City Charter. His namesake has been forever memorialized in one of the first school buildings built at the turn of the century.

Thacher Elementary School started as a small wooden school house in the bustling Northeast Neighborhood of Kansas City, MO. It was decided that in 1901 to build this elementary school in his honor!

The building stood for nearly a hundred years serving students until 1998 when the district decided to close this building. In 2013 the district decided that this historic building was worth more as a parking lot than what it would take to remodel Thacher to it's original glory.

We are seeking funding to help us stope this horrific assult on our neighborhood's most precious treasure. The community leaders have gathered together and decided that we would like to turn this school building into a community service center, providing much needed wrap-around services to the surrounding community.

We have worked with an architect and developer to draft a proposal but are lacking necessary start up funds to have the school district take us seriously! We need help, any amount will show proof that the community is taking action and is doing everything to help this effort go from mere idea to reality! Please help us!
