Music Room Scholarship Fund

The Music Room Memorial Scholarship program was implemented in 2015.  It is used to benefit the students that participate in the lesson program while also honoring the memory of two distinguished people of Music Room’s family. 

Carl Bessing was the former owner of Music Room.  He stayed in business for over 50 years, until 2013 when he decided to retire from ownership.  Mr. Bessing still taught for another year after this time, and remained a guitar instructor until just a few weeks before his unexpected passing.  Mr. Bessing had an incredible amount of knowledge that he passed along to his students, but it was his personality that was memorable to so many.  He was sweet, kind, personable and helped his customers and clients feel welcome and comfortable at his store.  Sometimes students from decades past would stop by and visit- he would leave an unforgettable impression on those whose lives he touched.  The Carl Bessing Memorial Scholarship has been established to help high school seniors that are current students at Music Room that intend to major in music.  Mr. Bessing loved to work with students that took music very seriously, students that made it a lifelong passion.  Eligible students must have been taking lessons at Music Room for over one year.

Brian Rush was a student of Mr. Bessing, an adult that studied with him for years before Mr. Bessing’s retirement led him to continue studies with the current Music Room owner.  Mr. Rush was a guitar student that had great ear, fluid technique and an interest in music theory and harmony.  His main interests were classic rock and had the goal of being a guitarist in a band, which sadly he was unable to experience more than a few rehearsals.  The Brian Rush Memorial Scholarship has been established to provide one student each year with free lesson tuition.  The student will be selected based on overall performance and improvement, practice efforts, lesson attendance and attitude toward learning their musical discipline.
