Kaydyn's Battle With Brain Cancer

Kaydyn’s Story

Kaydyn's battle with this monster we call Cancer has been going on for 6 years and 8 months so far.  Please take time to read this and help him in his battle.

Kaydyn  turned one on August 16th, 2008 but was diagnosed at the very young age of 9 months with a polymoxoid astrocytoma which is a brain tumor and his is non operable on May 29th, 2008 along with mestatic disease down his spine. He also had to have a shunt due to his hydrocephalus caused by the brain tumor.

He did 10 weeks of Vincristine and Carboplatin. with a new MRI to check the results of the chemo. The tumor did not react in fact the tumor increased in size so then he went through 10 weeks of Vinblastine. The Vinblastine was not a success either with treating his tumor so onto another chemo he went.  Kaydyn then did18 months of Avastin and Irinotecan and it held the tumor at bay.  His next step was to try Temodar chemo but he did not have any success with it so he went back for another18 months on the Avastin and Irinotecan which kept it a bay once again.  During his third regiment of the Avastin and Irinotecan he started having problems with his kidneys and other organs so we had to stop the treatment.  He then tried TPCV to which his tumor did not respond.   He then did not have a choice but to do 6 weeks of total brain and spine radiation which he completed on October 16th.  His first post radiation MRI scans on December 2, 2014 showed his tumor was stable.  So we scheduled a second post radiation scan for February 12th, 2015 which showed his tumor is already progressing.
Since we have now exhausted all of our chemo options we will now venture off to phase one and two chemo options and some not offered here in our home state.  Our 1st option choice states he needs to be 12 months post radiation before he will be eligible in addition to the time restriction he will have to have a whole new biopsy since it requires extensive genetics testing on his tumor (we will schedule this in between chemo cycles). So we had to move onto our 2nd choice which will be 4 different chemos for 42 consecutive days then a follow up with MRI scans and we pray his tumor reacts to this treatment.  We have NO IDEA what is ahead of us at this point in his journey.  We do however know we will need help with any medical expenses, extensive genetics testing, travel and any other needs that may arise for Kaydyn during this next phase in his battle.

Despite all that he has been through he is still a precious little angel sent to us by God and always seems to have a smile on his face no matter what.  We are blessed to see his faith shine through him on a daily basis and he always puts the needs of others before himself.  He is an amazing little man who has carried our family this far into his battle we have truly been blessed with him in our lives.

If you would like to reach the family directly please email [email redacted]

Attached is a documentary which is a must watch if you want to meet our sweet Kaydyn.  It was done by an MTSU journalist student at one point during his battle.
