A second-hand computer

I'm currently unemployed due to long-term depression, so it was a big problem when my iMac melted last year. It was getting old and the OS couldn't be upgraded anymore, but it did the job. When it finally broke down, I had to use an even older Mac as a substitute. This is nearly a decade old, so is terribly slow and has problems with, well, nearly everything, but especially graphics and 3D modelling which are the main uses I have for it (besides browsing for lolcat pictures, natch).

A friend has offered me his second-hand machine for a good price, but good as the price is, I don't have the cash for it. He's offered me first refusal, so I've got until April to raise the money. Any money sent will be gratefully received and not used to browse for lolcat pictures (much).
