Yoga Certification Fund

Hi, my name is Christy Alvarado.
Some of you may know me, some of you may not and for either I thank you already for simply stopping to hear/read my story. I have been practing yoga since about 2007, taking various yoga and pilates classes in L.A. In about late 2013 I was approached to by a studio to see if I would be interested in possibly teaching. I had, and still do, hold yoga instructors very highly and was nervous to know if I had what it would take to instruct a class.

Above is a class I taught, "Crow" pose.

In early 2014 I began my training and quickly taught anywhere from 10-14 classes a week, give or take, along with private lessons and workshops. It quickly became my life and everything that I could have wanted. I was inspired and even more humbling I was able to inspire so many peers around me, this is where the story turns however.

After 8 months, I was let go from the studio I had been teaching at and further more revoked from receiving my certification. In an instance everything I had known was pulled from under me. I was shocked with an assumption that almost haunts to this day that "my heart wasn't in it". Hurt and distraught I wanted to bury myself in my blankets and never come out, but this is where the clouds began to part.

After some self doubt and moping I began to work full time in an office and got to thinking. Many people from the community who took my classes regularly reached out to me wondering why I just vanished out of thin air. I realized then that I needed to crack the whip and do something. I had maintained teaching a few private lessons here and there and thought, if I told those who reached out to me to join me in the park one Saturday morning, what a delight it would be.

On February 14, 2015, yes Valentine's day, over two dozen people came out to support. Some new faces and some familiar ones all full of smiles, I'm smiling as I write this now looking at the above photo knowing how much that meant to me. We all hung around and had tea and coffee and enjoyed eachother's company. That's what made me happy. We were even featured in the Antelope Valley Press that following monday, February 16th.

So it inspired me to start this and tell my story. I don't want just a hand out, I was raised that nothing in life is free. For those of you near, I would love for you to come take a class of mine "GoGoYoga" (Yoga in the Park) or we can schedule a private lesson, and for those of you far... I would love to come to you. Once my goal is met I would love to teach a class wherever you are, yep I mean it, Colorado, New York, Florida, Hawaii, Mississippi, Canada, wherever. I'd love to see the world and would love to travel and teach like many other yoga teachers I look up to, such as Tiffany Cruikshank, who is precisley the person I wish to get my certification from. Thank you for hearing my story and I can not wait to meet you in person and thank you for helping me achieve my dreams. Your blessings are gratefully appreciated.
