Do those anti-animal abuse ads featuring singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan pull at your heartstrings? Do you believe in the cause, but have concerns regarding the legitimacy of big TV donation ads? If so, I ask you to consider helping your friends and neighbors here in West Michigan.
I am a Junior at Black River High School working with my school and the Wishbone Pet Rescue to raise $3,200 dollars to help 30 familes who can not afford to have their pets spayed or neutered. The Wishbone Pet Rescue in Saugatuck/Douglas MI in conjuction with the Allegan County Animal Shelter cares for 3,000-plus animals a year. Their goal is to reach 100 percent survival and rehoming. Wishbone is a fully incorporated nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.
When spaying and neutering pets you are increasing the animal's life for up to five years and decreasing the chances of the animal developing infections and cancers, such as breast and testicular cancer. This also ensures that the animals will not procreate as cats are 45 times prolific and dogs 15 times prolific as humans, which can be financially damaging to familes who are already struggling. By donating you are also benefiting the community, keeping animals off the streets and helping to fight overpopulization problems that results in the euthinization of millions of animals every year.
Working with Wishbone and the Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Express, I have seen first hand the importance and difficulties that come with spaying and neutering pets. Because of this, I am creating an event to be held on April 11, 2015 where families in need will be able to have their animals fixed for free. Once again my goal is to help 30 animals and families, aiming to raise $3,200 dollars.
We have received generous donations from the community, with a very giving local resident willing to match every dollar we receive to up to five thousand dollars, yet we are still short of our goal.
We are asking for a donation to help reach our goal. Doing this will help multiple animals and their caring families who would not be able to pay for this operation on their own. I ask you to please consider this donation to not only benefit a family in need, yet your entire community. Your gift is tax deductable.
