Help Jenni move forward and educate

Meet Jenni. She is 26 years old and comes from Venezuela. A bright young mother of two daughters. Three years ago in July, the day after one of their daughter's birthday, her husband was attacked and killed during a robbery. Jenni her life was turned around. Struggling to move forward with her life in a country where political and financial instability is growing by the day, Jenni's life became harder and harder. She lost her job. Access to ordinary things for her and her daughters became harder and harder.  In an ultimate attempt to make something out of this all Jenni took the hardest decision and decided to leave her children in the care of others and sell most of her assets to seek new opportunities elsewhere in the world. A major and traumatic decision which was driven by despair and lack of prospect. After risking everything and failing to seize any opportunity her life and the life of her daughters was in major trouble. This is the point where we met Jenni in spring of 2015, half a world away from where she came from; without prospect, without any residence status, without her daughters and without money her life and was more than miserable.

This project of the Alimenta el Cambio foundation  is about turning Jenni's life around. By offering her the time and space to think about her future without the burden of immediate financial needs. By providing access to networks to consider options for relocation to a safer country. By offering leadership. And finally by offering funds to make sure that she can have access to higher education in a country with economic and social prospect for her over the course of the next five years. We support this to make sure that she can take care of her daughters while attending university and living a healthy study and work balance.

We see in Jenni a dedicated and strong woman that sets example to others in her community.  With the help of the foundation she has started to turn around and be a great example to her daughters and other relatives as well. With this help, Jenni will be able to pay her knowledge forward to her community. By helping others help themselves. This is what our foundation is about. That is how can reach way beyond Jenni and her daughters.

The initial steps have been funded. Her flight out. The assessment of the education and job opportunities. Legal counselling. The reunification with her daughters after such a long time. We estimate that we need US$ 60,000 over the course of 5 years ($1000 per month for the period 2015-2020) to complete the education, to set up the programme in a corporate working environment and to care for the daughters within the program. During and after the five year program, Jenni will be able to make a change to her community in Colombia and Venezuela with the skills and networks that we have provided for her.
