They say everyone has their price. Apparently, mine is $500 for charity.
Every year at Defcon, MohawkCon shows up and raises money for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Hackers for Charity, and local hackerspaces.
Last year, MohawkCon was able to raise over $2k for EFF, and I want them to blow that number out of the water this year. So I'm donating my own head.
If we raise $500 or more with this fundraiser, I will get a mohawk at Defcon. And provide pictures of the aforementioned mohawk.
I do not have a good head for a mohawk. I will not look like a cool, tough, edgy punk chick in a mohawk. I will look like a pale, chubby girl whose head was very likely mauled by wolverines. And as it grows out, I will look like I have a particularly voracious strain of Sarcoptic mange. I will attend meetings as the Director of Technology (or the Director of Shoes) like this until it grows out. My hair grows very slowly. You will get to enjoy my shame for at least a few good months.
But the EFF does amazing work, and I want to help them out. This is the best way I can think of to make that happen.
Why EFF? Because EFF busts their ass to protect the rights of you, me and everyone else (whether everyone else realizes it or not) against idiotic laws that threaten our privacy and our digital freedom.
If we don't make the $500 goal, the money still goes to EFF, but my head will remain untouched and my lovely locks remain safe for another year. If we make more than $500, that would be freaking awesome, and every penny goes to EFF.
