Hello everyone!
My name is Manuel Morgado and I am in the last year of my Bachelor Degree in Physics at the University Simon Bolivar (USB) in Venezuela, where I am working in the field of Quantum Computing with Superconductors. Yes! Indeed, this is a very exciting field that will help us to have faster and better computers in the future.
Recently, I was selected among a large number of
candidates to attend the Hamburg DESY Summer School (from July 18th to September 8th) in Germany (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron). DESY is a prestigious and well-known science institution in the world that operates particle accelerators used to investigate the structure of matter in the field of High Energy Physics.
This great opportunity to attend DESY Summer School is the result of the excellent education received at University Simon Bolivar. There, I had the opportunity to be engaged in different science projects such as Formula SAE USB student group (racing cars), projects at the Energy Institute at USB (alternative energy projects ), in projects like DIDACTRON (project to promote basic sciences) and in the enrolment of Undergraduate Program of Astronomy in the Venezuelan Research Center of Astronomy in Mérida.
The lessons I learned and the quality of my professors inspire me to move forward in my professional research and my training as a scientist, in order to contribute to the solutions needed to solve future challenges of mankind.
The Summer School of DESY offers me an Assistantship to cover living expenses and lodging during my attendance at school and covers half of the international flight ticket (Caracas/Hamburg/Caracas). Nevertheless, 50% of the ticket (approx. €500) and the cost of internal transfer (approx. €50), medical insurance (€250) and travel allowances (approx. €650) for the first 2 weeks should go on my own. Under present conditions where the exchange control currency established in Venezuela makes more difficult the access to any foreign currency and for my family and I, it turns out to be an almost impossible to collect that amount. For this reason I appeal to your solidarity and all your support.
The goal fixed in this campaign is €1.500 to cover the cost of my participation at DESY. This takes into account deductions made by the team of GoFundMe who made this campaign and who I am enormously grateful.
Finally, I want to thanks in advance the help that you can give me to overcome this economic barrier, through monetary contribution and the sharing of this campaign on social media. I'd love to keep you informed and updated on the results of this campaign.

Mi nombre es Manuel Morgado y me encuentro terminando mi carrera de pregrado en Licenciatura Física en la Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) en Venezuela. Recientemente he sido seleccionado de un gran número de aplicantes para realizar una Escuela de Verano en el sincrotrón alemán en Hamburgo (del 18 de Julio al 8 de Septiembre), DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron), para el cual me encuentro totalmente motivado en asistir este verano.
Afortunadamente he podido disfrutar diversas experiencias que han dejado aportes únicos para mi desarrollo como profesional y como físico. Como por ejemplo, pertenecer y participar a la agrupación Fórmula SAE USB, participar en diferentes proyectos del Instituto de Energía de la USB, promover las ciencias en proyectos como DIDACTRON y asistir al Programa Universitario de Astronomía dictado por el Centro de Investigación de Astronomía en Mérida. Actualmente me encuentro desarrollando mi tesis en el área de Computación Cuántica con Superconductores la cual espero finalizar en el presente año.
La inigualable oportunidad que me ha brindado DESY ha sido gracias a la excelente educación recibida en la Universidad Simón Bolívar. Empero, es mi deber con mi alma mater y más aún con mi país, de seguir creciendo como profesional y aprovechar cualquier aporte a mi formación como científico con la finalidad de ser capaz en realizar modestos aportes y resolver futuros retos y problemas que puedan surgir para la humanidad.
La Escuela de Verano de DESY me ofrece un salario tipo beca-trabajo o ‘assistanship’, para cubrir los gastos de manutención y hospedaje durante mi asistencia a la escuela y cubre la mitad del pasaje internacional Caracas/Hamburgo/Caracas; sin embargo, el 50% del pasaje (aprox. 500€) y el costo del traslado interno (aprox. 50€), seguro médico (250€) y la manutención (aprox. 650€) de las primeras 2 semanas deben ir por mi cuenta. En las condiciones actuales del control cambiario en Venezuela donde se hace casi inaccesible la adquisición de divisas resulta un monto casi imposible de reunir para mi familia y para mi, por esta razón recurro a su solidaridad y al apoyo que pueda brindarme.
La meta fijada en esta campaña es de 1.500€ para tomar en cuenta las deducciones hechas por el equipo de GoFundMe que hicieron posible esta campaña y a quienes estoy enormemente agradecido.
Finalmente, quiero agradecer de antemano la ayuda que puedan brindarme para superar esta barrera económica, mediante su aporte monetario y a través de la difusión de esta campaña en las redes sociales. Me encantará mantenerlos informados en cada avance y actualizando los logros obtenidos.
