Mariann's Final expenses

When you wish upon a star,
you hope your wish comes true.
Never in your wildest dreams
Did you think it could happen to you.

Once upon a time
Back in the month of May
Mariann went to the doctor
That unsuspecting day.
 
One minute she was fine,
She just wanted a simple answer.
Who knew that what was going on
Was really endometrial cancer?

The initial shock and surprise
cannot fully be explained.
Fear, frustration, anger,
Followed by sheer pain.

But time marched on, and so did she
With much more explanation.
Instead of giving into fear,
She chose determination.


In June there was a surgery
To remove damaged lady parts.
Followed by a biopsy
Which led to broken hearts.

The oncologist shared with the family
Stage 4 Endometrial Cancer.
6-8 months of chemo and radiation
Would be the best answer.

Flashback 30 years
To Gateway High School's great halls.
Mariann dated Joe
And in love they did fall.

 
They dated, and married
And enjoyed living life.
They visited Disney World
As husband and wife.



Mariann stood by Joe
Her love for him true.
Through medical problems
And heart attack number two.

Their love saw them through
Those difficult times.
And as she stood by him,
Joe also stayed by her side.
 
The tumor grew larger
Which caused so much pain
They placed a stent in her colon
And meds to help with the strain.

Just days later,
time for treatment number one.
The complications were severe,
And unfortunately not done.

There were bills to be paid,
And were many pills to take.
Joe refused to leave her side,
Though his job was at stake.
 
His beautiful wife,
Who loved to read books.
Who had her own blog,
Who would hang out and cook.
 
She loved all things Disney
And her dog Belle to pieces.
She loved her family,
Her parents, nephews, her nieces.

She fought and she battled,

But in the end lost.

Her family is grieving,

And now there’s the final cost
