We reach for your help as students of Miss Georgi Limón, our passionate and devoted English as a Second Language teacher. Born in the USA, Miss Georgi moved to Cuernavaca, Mexico when she was a young woman. She fell in love with the country and began a 35-year long journey at Marymount School. The impact that she has had on thousands of students goes beyond spelling and grammar rules. She has imprinted on us passion for literature and a love for language. We evoke with smiles and warmth in our hearts how Miss Georgi would bring words to life, while teaching us invaluable lessons about commitment and responsibility. She deconstructed Shakespeare while standing on top of the desk. She cried with Bronte. She laughed with Mark Twain. She is that teacher remembered as a ¨game-changer¨, the one who truly impacted the skillset we have as adults. 

Miss Georgi finally retired but we’ve learned today that our beloved teacher needs our help. Sadly, she was diagnosed two years ago with both colon and liver cancer. After undergoing 16 rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove half her colon, she was in a brief period of remission. Last April however, tests showed the tumors had aggressively returned. A second type of chemo is now needed to treat new growths, additional to the node cancer. Her husband of over 40 years, incredibly, was diagnosed with a form of colon cancer the year before her as well.

Her modest pension and savings as an ex-pat teacher in Mexico are not enough to cover the treatment needed. Miss Georgi no longer has insurance coverage. She and her husband cannot work. They need to cover basic needs and the medical bills are piling up. There are no social programs in Mexico that can help them at this point.
The tragic truth is that without financial help, her fight against cancer will be lost.
As her students, we want to give her some of what she gave us with her love, energy and teachings. We need your effort to reach our goal. Every dollar counts.
