Dear Friends;
A new opportunity has presented itself that will enable me to continue my long path of study in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine, while pursuing a PhD at the renowned Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, in Nanjing, China. I have been conditionally accepted into the program, and plan to leave very soon to begin,(early November 2014) to stay for approximately one month to begin fulfilling the compulsory class requirements. The program will last for three years, and I will be required to attend for one month twice a year and complete a PhD dissertation.
Help me to bring this valuable knowledge back from China to share with the West. As an elected Council Member of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, and experienced educator and speaker at several international conferences, I hope to share this education on a large scale to help others worldwide, in a number of ways.
About me…
After graduating from the University of Utah in the 80’s, I lived in Japan for several years to study martial arts, became a karate teacher and had my own business. I decided to go back to school as an adult to pursue what had really interested me for over 20 years, and began my studies in this amazing field in about 2005 in Los Angeles. In 2008 I saw a photograph of one of the holy mountains in China, Huangshan , at an art show and made a vow to visit there. My brother accompanied me and we spent the night of my birthday on the top of Huangshan .While there in China, I carried a handwritten note written in Chinese, hoping to meet someone who could teach me something about Chinese Medicine. Perhaps by destiny, I met Dr.Wu Boping at the Hu Qing Yu Tang, (a famous hospital in Hangzhou from the Qing Dynasty) , who introduced me to Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in Hangzhou. I returned to the USA where I had been studying the last 3 years at one of the top Chinese Medicine schools in America, and was nearing graduation, feeling a little unfulfilled.That next year, in 2009, I realized that in order to gain the depth of knowledge that I was seeking it would be necessary to go to the source, like I had done to study karate in Japan. I dropped everything in LA and relocated to Hangzhou, China and began my Master’s studies all over again as one of only a handful of full-time foreign Master’s students. It was a huge sacrifice and very difficult. Fortunately, I was awarded a scholarship from the Chinese Government for “Excellent Student”, and through teaching karate part time at a local international school, was able to fund my entire education there in Hangzhou. I was not only granted a Master’s Degree in Medicine (Acupuncture), but was elected to the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and asked to speak at several international conferences both in China and in the USA.
I feel that my education is not over. There is a famous saying in Chinese that says,”活到老学到老”which means “Live until your old, study until your old”. In this field of medicine, it is necessary to never stop studying. The Chinese say, 学不完, study never ends.
To show my humble gratitude for your contribution toward achieving these goals, I would like to offer to reciprocate you for your kind donations by offering my services to you, someone you would like to gift, or one of my patients who is financially challenged and cannot afford to pay for treatment. For every $100.00 donation, I will give one Acupuncture/Chinese Medical related treatment which can be used by you or someone you would like to gift to, or a patient in need. For every $50.00 donation I will give a private martial arts, self-defense, or Qigong/Meditation/TaiChi lesson. Larger donations ($500.00+), qualify for Jade Member discounted services, long term discounts on services for as long as I am able to help you.
Furthermore, I will invite everyone who donates to follow me on social media and/or subscribe to my newsletter/blog, so that you can see me in China at school, in the classrooms and hospitals.
