Jack Russell is married to my sister, Karen. They have two beautiful daughters, Carrly and Jillian. Karen is a teacher in Fairfax County and both of their girls are school-aged. Jack is an Office Manager for a small local company. Like most of us in this area, they work very hard, and live paycheck to paycheck.
In early December, Jack experienced a stroke-like seizure and was rushed to Fairfax Hospital’s ER. A month later he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. The doctor’s tried to surgically remove the tumor, but had little success, only able to remove approximately 20% of the tumor. The tumor had grown significantly from the time originally noticed on an MRI to the next MRI performed one month later.
On February 11th, Jack started an aggressive treatment segment. He will undergo chemotherapy and radiation, five days per week, for six weeks straight. Once that segment is completed he will begin stronger chemotherapy that will be administered 5 days per month for another 6 months. Jack is remaining positive and is determined to do all he can to fight this monster growing in his brain.
While Jack is in the fight of his life he will be unable to work. His employer and fellow employees have been very generous, advancing leave and sharing leave to help him out. But they can only do so much. Most of us, if faced with a similar situation, would face the same financial struggles that the Russell family will face. The stress of this added financial struggle is something that Jack’s entire extended family is concerned about, and is the motivation to create this go fund me opportunity for them.
Most of us cannot even imagine the fear and sadness that Jack, Karen and their girls are facing every day. While they’re all trying to remain positive, the underlying fear is ever-present. Relieving the financial stress will afford Jack and the amazing girls in his life, the opportunity to focus all of their energy on his battle. Please consider joining their battle and donating.
