Jitari's Journey: Fighting Cancer
My name is Hope, and this is my son, Jitari. Jitari is 18 and has been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer. I would like to share with you our story.
We are a small family, just me (Mom), Jitari, Travis (little brother), and Justyne (Grandma), originally from the great state of Michigan, but now happily living in Tampa, FL.
Jitari is a recent gradute of Jefferson HS, and plans to attend the University of West Florida. Jitari is an exceptional soccer player, and will be a member of the UWF soccer team...when he is healthy again.
Jitari's first symptoms appeared in May 2015; he was referred to an orthopedic oncologist in July, and on Aug. 5th, he was diagnosed with cancer in his iliac bone, a part of the pelvis, with metastasis to his thigh, liver, and lungs.
It's now Aug. 21st, and we still don't have a specific diagnosis.
Initially, they thought it was Ewing's Sarcoma, but that has been ruled out. The doctors say it might be a similar cancer, called Ewing's Family Sarcoma, it might be a different sarcoma, or it might be a carcinoma.
What we know for certain is this:
Jitari does have a rare cancer, and he will need chemotherapy. Chemo cannot start until the doctors can figure out what type of cancer it is. They are hoping to have a final diagnosis by the end of August.
Jitari is a wonderful son, an amazing big brother and a true and loyal friend. It breaks my heart to see him suffering, but he makes me smile, and lights up my world, every single day.
My famly and I would like to thank you in advance for any donations you can spare. You'll never know how grateful we are for your support.
Sincerely,
Hope
