I have done everything I can to pursue my dreams. As a first generation college student from a single-parent household, I understood from a young age that it would take work to be able to afford my education. My hard work has allowed me to study at an incredible university with world-class staff.
I have the incredible opportunity to study in Turkey, the country that I have enjoyed learning about since I was in elementary school. The course I would be taking is called "A Civilization in Transition, Social, Economic and Cultural History of Turkey since the Imperial Times" which would give me the opportunity to learn in the actual place rather than simply in a textbook in St. Louis. When the history surrounds you, it is more than facts; it comes to life and has a lasting impact. Study abroad leaves a lasting impact on students, with independence, cross-cultural communication, and flexibility. For me personally, this is the opportunity of a lifetime.
This is something that I cannot pass up. I am asking for help to fund this amazing chance. I have some of the funds, but I am a full-time student (I am actually taking the maximum allowed courses right now) and cannot afford all of it.
If I can raise $2000 on this website, then I can set myself up for my dreams. I intend to get a graduate degree and study migration studies, particularly related to people integrating into a new society. I want to study this particular area because I feel that it is a place where I can actually help people. This opportunity is so close, and I cannot let it slip away.
