Meg McFarlane - #TEAMSOGB

Tax deductible
As a baby, Meg’s parents were told she would never walk.  Momentarily, her heart stopped beating.  Meg has been part of Special Olympics GB for over three years.  She has an impressive list of achievements, including first place at the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Annual Ice Skating Competition at Lammas Ice Skating Club, and gold medals at GB Inclusive Skating National Competitions.in 2013 and 2014. Meg has also competed and won medals at Special Olympics International events.

Meg said: “My skating and Special Olympics has given me so much confidence in myself.  It’s given me a circle of friends both at my skating club and internationally from the people that I meet when I compete.  It has improved my physical capabilities and my level of fitness and motivation.

“I love skating and performing for an audience.  I want to perform at my best and focus on my own personal performance in order to improve on the results I have achieved in previous competitions.

“After the Games I want to continue to improve my level of skating and become the best that I can be.”

Meg has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Figure Skating competition at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria in 2017, one of the biggest events in the Special Olympic global calendar which will attract over 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from over 110 countries.

Going to Austria will be a time to enjoy herself, spreading her wings, meeting people from around the world and doing her best on the ice.

For the athletes, going to the Games is not only about participating in their chosen sport: it’s about meeting athletes from around the world, making new friends, having fun, daring, improving their health and challenging preconceptions about people who have an intellectual disability.

Please give what you can to help Meg on her way to Austria as she is working hard in order to be the best she can in 2017 and to do her country proud.
