Headshave for Otra Cosa Network

Donation protected
Dear Lovely People,

the campaing has been extended to the end of September. Let's try to reach the goal of £1000 for unpriviladge women and children in Peru.

The donations will help to two specific projects which respectively support unprivileged children and women in Northern Peru. Those projects are run by Otra Cosa Network which is a British/Peruvian NGO.

1) HELP Women

When Marly’s family turned their backs on her and her children, the mothers involved in OCN’s Women’s Empowerment Project gave her the support that she needed. She said: "This is our safe haven that helps us keep going, fighting for our children and each other."

The HELP Women project provides a safe place for local women who are excluded in the community to meet and get support from other women. The women have been exposed to domestic abuse and have not had access to education, resulting in unemployment. HELP Women endeavours to empower disadvantaged women by assisting them to improve their own lives and futures through the provision of handcraft workshops which teach crucial skills.
2) HELP English

Before Otra Cosa Network initiated the HELP English project, many children did not have the opportunity to learn English or receive essential learning assistance in class. One such student was a seven year old girl who always struggled in class and found it difficult to take part in class activities. When a volunteer from the HELP English project began to work with her, the volunteer was able to assist her in class by preparing individual activities to suit her specific needs. After introducing new learning approaches and the provision of class assistance she was happier and took part in all class activities.

The HELP English project  has already had a huge impact on children who would not ordinarily have access to appropriate and vital learning resources, as well as dedicated English classes as the Peruvian government does not provide funding for English language classes in state schools. Otra Cosa’s volunteers have made progress with children in schools who have benefitted from individual learning experiences and have greatly improved the learning experiences. This progress has been down to the dedication and perseverance of volunteers who go out to work with children in need of support.
Where does the money go?
All money raised will go solely to these two projects. Resources are especially limited in the HELP English project, so some of the funds will be used to expand the resources available. Funds will also be used in the HELP Women project to increase the number of workshops and resources available as well as providing quality training sessions and trips.

Why me?
I have volunteered with Otra Cosa Network previously and am returning to Peru this September.
I would like to fundraise as much as possible to support these two extremely progressive and important projects which have struggled with funding in recent times, and have therefore not been able to provide the necessary resources to the people that need them most. All fundraised money will be put towards these two projects.

When will I be shaving off my hair?
Wedneday 16th September after the Pub Quiz Night for Otra Cosa Network which starts at 7:30pm in Fat Fox in Portsmouth.
Everyone is welcome to join us for the Pub Quiz and support the shaving off of my hair.

End of campaign:
Wednesday 30th
