Final Cross Canada Trip for Sue

Donation protected

Our lives were forever changed on July 4th, 2014, when my wife's heart fell apart during what was to be a routine open heart surgery. Many complications, and almost three years later, she is still extremely sick, unable to work, and has very little quality of life... Please continue reading below for the full story!

#GoBeyondGiving...
It all started on Friday July 4th, 2014, almost three weeks after entering the hospital.
The first surgery took 17+ hours, and at the end of it, the left side of her heart was not beating. Another surgery was performed the next morning, lasting about 3 hours. The doctor informed me that her heart was still not beating, and that she would remain in an induced coma until the swelling went down. They hoped that this would help the heart. Another operation was performed on July 8th, but with little success.
July 9th, she was transferred to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. She was put in line for a heart transplant, then she was taken off the list after one of the doctors was able to perform yet another open heart surgery to repair the damage.

Sue was returned to Kelowna General on July 19th, still in her induced coma... just over two weeks, and remained that way for another week.

Fast forward a year later, and Sue was diagnnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension. It made her breathing harder to do, and any form of activity took its toll.

Another year goes by, which brings us to today, and we discover that Sue is now in line to go into Pre-Transplant therapy. Meaning she may need to have a transplant.

During this time, we have suffered some losses, including my primary source of income. Still looking for employment, we have burned through our savings, and are currently living day to day. Our extended medical also expires at the end of this month, meaning the cost of Sue's prescriptions will go up.

With the possibility of having to travel back and forth between Kamloops and Vancouver and Kelowna, the possibility of finding an employer who is understanding of our condition may be hard to do.

It has been a very hard two years, and we are trying to live normally as best as possible, and try to keep a positive outlook...

Thank you all for reading this far... We love you all!
