Madison's Medical Care

Madison was born on 12/9/2010 with Campomelic Dysplasia (CMD) which "is a rare genetic disorder characterized by bowing of the long bones and many other skeletal and extraskeletal features".

At about 6 months to term this condition was discovered through prenatal testing.  As the prognosis for survival during neonatal is only about 5%, her parents were told by doctors and nurses to prepare for the worst. 

Against the odds, and with the expertise of specialists at the American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, WI, Madison pulled through. Unfortunately however, those who survive this period are by no means out of the woods. 

In her short 4 years, Madison has had no less than 4 major surgeries (and countless pre-op consults) to correct skeltal malformations from her legs/club-feet to her back and curved spine. Her most recent procedure however was met with several complications.

When trying to correct a curvature of her spine (without which her respiratory (lung) function is dangerously restricted) the procedure went without error, however there were complications post-op. She lost all feeling in her legs causing them to need to take her back into surgery to remove the rods placed to correct the curve. She has been on a feeding and breathing tube for the last month (the breathing tube only recently removed), she can speak only in quiet breaths and she will now need to relearn to walk.

Due to these complications and required rehabilitation, Madison will need to wait at least 6 months before undergoing this entire procedure again. 

Madison has 3 older brothers and 1 older sister who all live with Madison's father (Matt) in La Crosse, WI while her mother (Kathy) stays with her at the hospital in Madison, WI. Because of this, Kathy is unable to work to support their other children and they are now experiencing difficulties with the everyday needs of a family of 6. Matt's job in town is enough to make immediate ends meet, but only barely, and much less pay their substantial medical bills for all the procedures with many more to come. 

At this time, their only insurance coverage is Wisconsin's Badger Care.

This gofundme fundraiser is to help pay for not only Madison's extensive medical bills, but to provide her family with some financial relief in these extremely trying times.
