Prayers for Madison Brewster

Madison is 5 years old.  When she was 4 days old she had a surgery to connet the esophagus to her stomach and correct her trachea.  It was not till she was 1 week old that they discovered she had Down syndrome from a chormosome test.

Madison was born with holes in her heart (VSD)'s & pulmonary hypertension.  She was scheduled for open heart surgery at about 5 months old.  By the grace of God, she was able to avoid that surgery due to the holes slowly closing & pulmonary hypertension was in the high of normal range.  She also had transient leukemia at birth, which is a temporary leukemia that will either turn into full blown leukemia or the body will start making healthy cells on its own.  At 5 months of age her body showed no signs of leukemia!

Madison was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) at 15 months old & battled it for 5 months receiving only 4 of the 6 rounds of chemo.  She couldn't finish the last 2 which were  maintenance rounds due to getting fungal pneumonia from an infection in the blood stream.  She was treated with a strong medicine for 6 months & had to undergo anesthesia every month for a CT scan to monitor the progress.  At that point, she had a bone marrow aspiration done & leukemia was gone!

On May 14, 2015 Madison was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia).  The current leukemia was found practically by accident starting with blood work at her neurologist. That appointment was to discuss sleeping issues & restless leg syndrome!  Her blood work came back with only small irregularities. Nothing was alarming to her neurologist or her pediatrician, they just suggested the possibility that she had a cold when blood draw was done!  So a repeat in 3 weeks was ordered.  This brings us to her well visit with her Oncologist, Dr Taub at DMC Children's!  He repeated the blood work but he didn't even feel there were signs for concern from the previous blood draw from neurologist.  The check up went great & he was so proud of her for how well she's doing all around.  She was on the every 6 month check up plan & all was going great.  She was in remission for 3 & 1/2 years!! But all that changed that evening when Dr Taub called Bill & Wendy with the devastating news!!  They are thankful this was caught so early & not another 6 months from now.  Obviously it was devastating to say the least and were in shock & disbelief. All they could think of is "here we go again....our little girl has another battle"!

Madison's 2nd battle to beat leukemia has already started on Monday, May 18, 2015.  She had surgery to insert a port to receive chemo through for over 2 years, had a bone marrow aspiration & a spinal tap which included chemo.  She was admitted for the week which also included complications.  Poor Madison didn't come out of anesthesia well and her stats dropped to the point of having to be re-intubated.  She ended up in Pediatric ICU for 24 hours with several episodes that caused them to keep her sedated!  Her chemo treatment was delayed until Tuesday. However, there were issues with the needle in her port & she needed it replaced with a longer one.  Then she developed high blood pressure possibly due to the steroid she's on.  She has to be on blood pressure medicine for at least 4 weeks which is how long she will be on the steroid.  If all goes as planned from here on out, her treatment plan will last 2 & 1/4 years.

Madison is the daughter of William and Wendy Brewster and has a brother Cameron who is 10 years old.

This go fund me goal will help the Brewster family with medical expenses and absences from work.  Please find it in your heart to donate even a small amount to support this wonderful family.  Pray for Madison as she goes through treatment.
