TX APCO-TX NENA CHARITY

Donation protected
Each year at the TX APCO-TX NENA Public Safety Conference money is raised for a Texas 9-1-1 Telecommunicator in Need and a non-profit organization.  At this years conference, being held April 19-22, 2015 in Galveston, TX, we have selected not one but two 9-1-1 Telecommunicators and the  Texas Emergency Response Taskforce aka TX TERT.

The two 9-1-1 Telecommunicators chosen this year are both deserving individuals and we would like to share part of their stories.  One was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and has substantial medical bills that insurance did not cover.  This same persons home was heavily damaged due to a fire on Thanksgiving making it unliveable until repairs are made, thankfully nobody was injured but everyday life once again was disrupted.
The other is a 20+ year veteran 9-1-1 Telecommunicator who is adopting her grandchild.  Her love and dedication to her family is her reason why, keeping her grandchild with family who already love and care for him is her hearts desire.
TX TERT was chosen as the non-profit organization due to its task in aiding other 9-1-1 Telecommunicators  nationwide.  During TX-TERT disaster deployment to Hurricane Isaac, the response team waited over 25 hours to get the “go-ahead” from Louisiana Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) authorities. The disaster affected Telecommunicators who had already worked over 40 hours without relief and their EMAC would not approve the request until the agency confirmed how they were going to house, feed and support the TX-TERT Team.  As you can imagine, the disaster affected agency’s personnel, they were exhausted and victims themselves, several had lost homes or had displaced family members.
This incident became a priority for TX-TERT "Lessons Learned". With your support the TX-TERT will be able to purchase a deployment trailer which will allow:
•Quick deployment for the immediate relief of exhausted, disaster-affected 9-1-1 Telecommunicators
•Support deployed Telecommunicators short/long term during disaster events
•Maintain daily operations within a 9-1-1 center regardless of circumstances
TX-TERT is the first federally recognized Telecommunicator disaster deployment team. They have received numerous recognitions throughout the state to include:
•2008 Award of Gratitude, Galveston County
•2009 Presidential Award, TX-NENA
•2009 Award of Merit, Commission on State Emergency Communications
•2009 Presidential Achievements Award, TX-APCO
•2009 P.R.I.D.E Award, North Central Texas Council of Governments
•2012 Hot Stuff Award, NCTCOG Emergency Preparedness
•2012 Recognition of Merit Award, St. John the Baptist Parish, LA
