Hello friends and random internet people,
Last fall, I was finally able to get dental insurance and I rushed to go get crucial dental work done. I was finally able to get into a dental school near me, and I got some big emergency work done (two huge root canals) which was a lifesaver. Before the procedures I'd been in so much pain that I couldn't eat and could barely walk. It was a killer.
I got a lot of the work I needed done, and thought I'd soon be finished. Unfortunately there weren't any appointments available for a few month period, and during that time, the remaining work needing to be done got bigger and more complicated. And some of the temporary pieces they'd done failed and needed to be redone in emergency. The additional work caused by waiting used up the very last of my savings.
While my insurance does cover most of the work I still need done, it doesn't cover everything. Most crucially, it doesn't cover sedation. (I need sedation for any procedure because I have a weird referred pain issue where I feel the dentist's drill in my back or legs...which is a problem). Fortunately, I'm going to a dental school which means that prices are super cheap (in exchange, each appointment takes half the day). But I will need at least 9 appointments in the next couple months and I need to pay whatever insurance doesn't up front, or the dentist isn't allowed to work on me. Period.
There is no ability to defer payment or do a payment plan. I pay the required amount for the appointment upfront (which ranges from 40$ to a few hundred dollars) or I go home.
I'm asking for $600 - and as long as everything goes according to plan, and I don't need extra visits or work, that will cover my costs almost exactly.
I'm looking forward to being able to eat without pain, and smile and laugh without showing off gross teeth.
Any amount you can give me would help.
