Hi there! We are SEA Enterprises, an underwater robotics team looking forward to competing in the MATE ROV competition this year on May 9th.
Our team includes artists, dancers, gamers, slackers, and athletes. Although we come from various backgrounds and expertise we are inspired by the ocean, engineering, and innovation.
Last year we placed 3rd in the MATE regional scout class competition, and this year we are stepping it up a notch; hoping to take 1st place in the Ranger class competition! To get 1st place in the competition, we need our ROV to perform 3 main tasks.
For the first main task our ROV has to Maneuver through a hole in the ice to collect samples, identify and count species, deploy a sensor, then survey and evaluate an iceberg to determine the threat level to area oil installations.
Then, it must conduct a visual inspection to locate a corroded section of pipeline, remove that section of pipeline and return it to the surface, prepare the remaining pipeline for a replacement section, and prepare a wellhead for the delivery of a 'christmas tree'.
Finally it needs to test the grounding of anodes on the leg of an oil platform, determine the angle that a wellhead emerges from the seafloor, and move water through a pipeline system to ensure that oil will flow through the correct pathway.
