Half Marathon for Lynch Syndrome UK

Donation protected
Why?

Lynch Syndrome is a hereditary disorder giving sufferers an increased risk of a large number of different cancers. The gene not only runs in my own family but also causes 5% of all cancer cases in the UK.

My aunties, Jennifer Martin and Pauline Skarrott, are admirably working hard to set up a charity aiming to raise awareness of Lynch and now it's time for
me to do my bit...
So, I have mangaged to bully Katharine AND now Laura (hurray!) into running Sunderland City Half Marathon with me on Sunday 3rd May (now only 2 (!!!!) weeks away...) so if you could take a moment and a few pounds to donate it would be greatly appreciated...

Those people aware of their genes have the chance to be screened and tested regularly. Those who are not aware do not get that chance and often by the time they catch their cancer, it is too late.

More Info...
A number of inherited syndromes can increase your risk of colon cancer, but Lynch syndrome is the most common. Doctors estimate that about 3 out of every 100 colon cancers are caused by Lynch syndrome.

Families that have Lynch syndrome usually have more cases of colon cancer than would typically be expected. Lynch syndrome also causes colon cancer to occur at an earlier age than it might in the general population.

Once diagnosed, regular screening can assist in early detection of cancer and so increase survival and quality of life.

Lynch Syndrome UK is a new charity stemming from a long running support group on Facebook. We are well on our way to becoming a registered charity within the UK. Our many members are passionate about our cause to educate and empower people that have this genetic condition offering support to both them and their families when they need it most.

Lynch Syndrome UK aims to ensure that for the public benefit, people and their families affected by Lynch Syndrome are provided with support in the form of information, signposting and listening, also to increase public awareness of the syndrome, educating members of the general public and health care professionals and providing support for Lynch syndrome research projects. Our vision is that all people affected by Lynch Syndrome in the UK have access to standardised screening, so enabling prevention of development of cancer and early diagnosis enabling survival.

Lynch Syndrome UK is an all volunteer organisation and is founded and governed by Lynch syndrome survivors and their families. The charity is dedicated toward protecting families and saving lives of those at high risk for an hereditary genetic predisposition to various cancers which often strike at an early age. If diagnosed early, we believe Lynch Syndrome survivors have positive outcomes which enhance survival, the longevity and quality of life as well as the emotional well-being of those of us who are affected by Lynch syndrome.
