We set up a table at the Pomona street fair last Saturday. Had a robot arm for people to play with and a simple balloon blimp project for kids to make. The RepRap was down, unfortunately, but it was still interesting to talk about. Lots of people have never heard of 3D printing.
Everyone we talked to was exciting to hear about what we're doing. We met some great people who will probably join MAG Lab once we have our space!
We're happy to announce a MAG Lab fundraiser raffle!
The prize is a year's general membership to MAG Lab. And as a bonus, a 4000 series Dremel!
Here's the most important part: The money you spend on raffle tickets can be applied to your future membership fees. So if you buy one ticket, it's $5 off your first month; and if you buy 5 tickets you've payed for your first month general membership.
Tickets are $5 each and odds will be 1/500 or better. If we sell more than 500 tickets, a second prize will be offered.
The raffle will be held on September 2 at 2:30pm at Sycamore Canyon Park in Diamond Bar. Come at 2:00pm to enjoy some dutch oven cooking! You do not need to be present to win.
Proceeds from this raffle will go toward the security deposit and first month rent of a space of our own. The hardest part in starting a hackerspace is the initial investment, so your participation is appreciated!
Our group is called MAG Lab - Makers Artists and Gadgeteers Laboratory. We are starting a non-profit community workshop in Pomona, CA. It will be a place where people can build the inventions, projects, and works of art that have been floating around in their heads.
Right now, we don't have a space of our own. We have pieces of industrial-grade equipment that have been donated and are in storage, waiting for a home. And we have all kinds of great ideas to work on once we have a place.
Your donation will help us with our first month rent, letting us get established. Once we're up and running we hope to be able to support ourselves with projects we make, and increased membership.
MAG lab will be a workshop where people can share talents and skills, collaborate on projects, and have access to tools that they would not commonly have in their own garage. It will be occupied largely by students from Cal Poly Pomona. This will be a place where everyone can learn by doing!
