[Update: We have reached our original funeral goal of $12,000, but anything beyond that will go to help my mother, who has not been able to work due to the cancer and has become sicker this week. We are so grateful for all your kindness and help.]
Hello everyone,
We are really in trouble (as we have been this entire year). My father passed away on Thursday, but funeral costs have been higher than expected.
He was only 67 and had stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma (gallbladder/bile duct cancer), along with diabetes, high blood pressure, a very poorly-working cardiovascular system and a host of other health problems. He caught pneumonia at his nursing home and was rushed to the ICU, but only three months after he was diagnosed with the cancer, he passed away quickly from septic shock.
He left behind his wife, who also has cancer, and me, his daughter, who has no idea what else to do. My parents do not speak English well, and are not comfortable with using the Internet to research what resources are available, so I am the one who organizes their affairs, though I am also figuring it out myself as I go along.
This is the latest in a rough year of developments. We lost our family home in September, after being foreclosed on and evicted. I rented my mother a room from Craigslist, and my father lived in his storage unit. He finally found a motel room, and just two weeks after, he went to the hospital for chest pains and never came home again.
Meanwhile, my mother has been in and out of the hospital for surgeries and chemotherapy, which have further taken a toll on our morale. We have no car, so my mother took the bus to her appointments and to see my father, with several transfers in between and trips lasting approximately 1.5 hours each way, if not more.
Please, please help us out of a very tough situation. We've never had money or excessively nice things beyond the necessities, and it would really lift our spirits just to have one final nice memorial for my father as he leaves this earth.
We appreciate everything you do so much (even if the only thing you can offer are just kind words, and pictures of cats) and we will pass it on to others in any way that we can.
