-- EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOKS OF LUDGATE HILL--

Synopsis

An introverted boy attempts to understand the reasoning behind the unexpected departure of his eighteen-year-old sister, whom he loved dearly.

Overview

Ludgate Hill is a short film that we started filming back in December 2018. The idea for the film came about in Autumn 2015, so this has been one hell of a journey. The final stage is the distribution. My plan is to submit the film to film festivals around the world. To do this I will need your help. Ludgate Hill is a beautiful, simple, and a uniquely crafted short film. To the ones who will see the film either at a film festival or via their private online link (one of the perks on offer – see below), I hope you all take something away from this film – good or bad. Feedback is welcomed, so don’t hesitate to let me know what you think. My contact details are below.

Many thanks,
Tom.

The Reason Why Film Festivals Benefit Short Films

I have started this campaign in order to seek financial support to help with the distribution costs for the film. To give you a better understanding, submitting our films to film festivals cost money. Most filmmakers when putting together a distribution plan, they split a document into three or four tiers. Each tier represents how significant each festival is to the film. Most of the festivals within the first tier have specific premiere status requirements, meaning our films cannot be screened publicly anywhere else in the world or in that specific country prior to that festival, making the festival first priority. This campaign is directed at covering the submission costs to festivals such as the Locarno Festival, Byron Bay International Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival (Biennale), and the BFI London Film Festival.

The benefit of submitting to these festivals and others is the opportunity to meet with experienced filmmakers who may be able to guide or assist you along your journey of improvement as a filmmaker. Having the opportunity to hear what established filmmakers think of your film instills a different kind of awareness and understanding. It’s bigger than just saying your film got into the aforementioned festivals, it’s the experience of travelling to those festivals and experiencing what the world has to offer for an emerging filmmaker – interstate or abroad.

Key Crew Biographies

Get to know a few of the filmmakers behind Ludgate Hill:

DIRECTOR, WRITER, PRODUCER

Tom Francis Kerby was born in 1995 in London, England and moved to Australia at the age of four years old. He grew up in Adelaide but moved to the east coast of Australia at the age of eighteen to pursue his filmmaking ambitions. After studying Screen and Media at New York Film Academy in 2016, Tom took two years off from production to lay the internal foundation to his storytelling vision by immersing himself with films from filmmakers such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Paolo Sorrentino, David Lynch, and Ingmar Bergman. Tom is currently in post-production on a short film and is developing two short screenplays.

CO-PRODUCER

Casey Wherry is a South Australian film all-rounder with a talent for organisational roles. She studied at MAPS Film School, where she majored in producing and particularly enjoyed the role of 1st assistant director on set. Currently, Casey is freelancing as a producer/assistant director for local films, hoping to obtain more work in this particular field in the future.

CINEMATOGRAPHER

Oliver Davis was born in 1998 and grew up in Somerset, England before moving to South Australia in 2012. Oliver expressed his love for film during his schooling years by competing in the Adelaide 48 Hour Film Project since 2015, winning multiple awards recognising his and the team’s hard work. After developing a strong passion for storytelling, he went on to study at the Adelaide College of the Arts where he continued to develop his craft and further his love for cinematography. After the completion of his studies, Oliver is now freelancing as his primary role of cinematographer in films, enjoying editing and colouring on the side while also camera assisting on large scale productions.

COMPOSER

Adam Orlowski was born in 1994 in Adelaide, Australia. After studying a Media Arts Degree at the University of South Australia, Adam has worked in theatre and film and has been nominated at the South Australian Screen Awards for Best Music Composition in 2019. With roots as a musician, Adam looks to bring out sound in a creatively unique way through his sound designs and his scores.

6. Why have you set a limit to all the perks?

We have set a limit to the perks on offer because we are trying to raise funds to support our distribution plan. If we do not place a limit on the perks, then we would be limiting our chances of entering our film into more film festivals around the world. We sincerely appreciate your financial support so in return we want to give back as much as we can. All other donations outside of the perks are also considered vital to our films chances of succeeding. A perk does not have to justify our gratitude towards your donation. We are grateful to everyone’s help, but financially speaking we are not in a position to offer limitless perks.

7. When will my perk arrive?

For donations $30 to $49, you should expect to receive your thank you card (personalized with a photograph from behind the scenes and a personal message from the director) within two months.

For donations $50 to $149 you will receive a link to the film once the film has finished its festival run in early-mid 2020. The reason for this is because film festivals require no public viewing outside of their film festival at the time of selection. However, other film festivals allow public screenings outside of their film festival, including online. These festivals will be screening towards the end of 2019, early 2020, leaving our chance of sending the link to you around this time.

For donations $150 or more, you should expect to receive your DVD of the film towards the middle-end of 2020. For your free ticket to any public screening in SA, this is subject to the film getting into a film festival in SA. If the film is selected to feature at one of the film festivals in SA across 2019 and 2020, we will be in touch with you to send you your free ticket.
