The facility would host weekly racing of 4-Cylinders, Midwest Modifieds, and Pure Stocks on a 3/8 mile dirt track on Friday Nights during the summer, and snowmobile events during the winter. Demolition Derbies, Cycle Cross, Monster Trucks, Ice Racing, Snocross, Go-Karts, etc. may also be hosted.

Opportunity

The City of Kenora, situated on the north shore of beautiful Lake of the Woods, is a picturesque community that is home to more than sixteen thousand year-round residents and is host to numerous annual festivals and events that attract tens of thousands of visitors each year. The city of Kenora is a unique, multi-generational travel destination that strives to offer entertainment for people of all ages and demographics. As an established recreational and tourist destination, an opportunity exists to benefit from this growth through investment in recreational and entertainment businesses in the area.

A variety of entertainment options, including boating, festivals, hiking and fishing are currently offered within the City of Kenora and the surrounding area; however, there is strong demand for other types of entertainment to continue to appeal to a growing number of tourists. One type of entertainment that is lacking in the area is motorsports and, more specifically, stock car racing. Based on early market research, there is an increasing amount of support for such a facility from local residents and tourists. The implementation of a motorsports facility is therefore anticipated to be successful and initial steps have been taken towards making this idea a reality.

It is proposed that the “Lake of the Woods Speedway” be constructed in the City of Kenora with the purpose of becoming a racing facility dedicated to family entertainment through the world of motorsports with the goal of providing top quality family motorsports entertainment through solid value, exciting promotion, and smooth programming.

Partnerships and Community Support

Although this undertaking is in its preliminary staging, the amount of support to date has been staggering. This includes support from local government, business owners and media, including the CBC.  There is a growing consensus that this proposed facility would result in significant tangible benefits for the local and regional economy. It is therefore necessary that we build on the current momentum gained through this strong community support and move the project to the next phase and ultimately to construction.

Stock car racing has long been shown to have a significant impact on the local and regional economy in many communities of similar sized and characteristics to the City of Kenora.  For example, it is estimated that the indirect economic benefit to the local community from the Speedway in Emo, Ontario is almost $250,000 with only a population of 1,200 people. Similarly, the economic benefit from the Winnipeg's track is estimated to be in the range of $1.5-$2 Million. These racetracks have demonstrated an increase in hotel bookings, fuel stations, restaurants, parts stores, and overall tourism spending and visits in the communities in which they are situated. Based on initial economic impact analysis, it is estimated that the indirect economic benefits of a track in Kenora could be in the range of $1 Million annually.

It is very apparent that an opportunity exists to develop a motorsports facility in the City of Kenora that will provide family entertainment to local residents and the growing tourist community. Initial market research has indicated that there is strong support for this type of facility.

The track supports local volunteers and employment that would help enhance and diversify the economy in the Kenora, Ontario area. This track would draw participants and fans from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay, as well as throughout the United States and Northwestern Ontario.

You can donate as little as you want or as much as you want! Every dollar counts to make this a reality!

The $25,000 goal will allow us to be able to finalize our feasibility study, business plan, and pre-engineering to create an amazing facility to one day feature dirt track racing, as well as the possibility of many different types of motorsport.
