"Living Outside the Box"
We are two artists working to obtain funding for an environmentally driven cycling tour. It is being used as an independent study credit towards our Public Engagement Minor at the Maine College of Art. This adventure will take place along the East Coast, in a round trip from Portland, Maine to Washington, D.C. from May 1st to June 12th. There will be a final exhibition displaying the art we create along the journey.
We are embarking on this journey to inspire the public to engage with nature through dialogue, storytelling and visual art in the hopes that they will be more invested in the protection of the environment. We are currently training to prepare ourselves for this journey. In doing this, we hope to inspire others to build a relationship with nature and reconsider the indoor lifestyle that is common in America. This idea connects to our title, "Living Outside the Box," which refferences the boxes we are accustomed to living in as part of Western Culture.
We are requesting $1500 to provide bicycle gear and camping gear that will assist us in this journey. We are starting with no prior gear so any contribution will help, in additon to the money we are currently saving.
This trip will not only advance ourprofessional practices. It will also develop a conversation around interracting with the environment in order to encourage its conservation.
