The Life Boat Project

Donation protected
When typhoon Haiyan (known locally in the Philippines as "Yolanda") struck and the devastation became obvious, our group didn't think twice to help however we can. We thought of creating a fund drive to send essentials like food and clothing to the Philippines, but an article on the Philippine Daily Inquirer

caught our attention. It's about fishermen asking for boats instead of food and clothing. There are numerous countries sending food to the Philippines now. So, we decided to raise money to help us build ONE boat for ONE family. Through a fundraising effort done at Chungmu Art Hall in Seoul on November 16, we were able to raise money to build that one boat. We hope you could help us send more money to build more boats and help the fishermen get their livelihood back. Our fundraising will continue until the end of the year. Construction of boats and turnover to beneficiaries is targeted in January 2014. Thank you.

Who are we? We call our group THE 601 HABIT and you can visit our Facebook page
for more information. I, Ana Park (nee Olivera), is the appointed fund handler of the group. I run a blog of my own
if you want to learn more about me.

Where we're from? We are originally from the Philippines. We are currently living in Seoul, South Korea.

Our beneficiaries will be fishermen from Northern Iloilo (where one of the members hail from) and Negros Occidental (where another member is from). We decided to help out in the places that were affected by the typhoon but has not been given enough attention by the media and other organizations.

The time frame for our fundraising is until the end of December. A member will be going home to her home province of Iloilo in December to interview the beneficiaries (number is based on how much fund we have) and contract with boat makers. We will prioritize those who have more mouths to feed. Our goal is to turnover the boats to the beneficiaries by January.

The net proceeds from this fundraising on GOFUNDME would go to the construction of boats.
