The Letter
One morning this past September, an envelope arrived.  It was small, beige, and otherwise unremarkable except for one thing - the return address, which read "US House of Representatives, US Captiol, Washington, DC 20515".

Inside was a small letter, embossed with the seal of the United States Congress.  The letterhead was from the desk of Thomas Rooney, representative of Florida's 17th Congressional District. It read...

"Dear Mr. Grossnicklaus,

It is my honor to inform you that I have recently nominated the Lemon Bay High School Marching Mantas to represent the State of Florida at the National Park Service's 2017 National Independence Day Parade."

This is a tremendous honor for the Lemon Bay High School Marching Mantas and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the hardworking students of Lemon Bay High School!

Who We Are
The Marching Mantas are made up of nearly 100 band and color guard students in grades 9-12 at Lemon Bay High School in Englewood, Florida.  They perform regularly at school and community functions each year.

Over the past 8 years, they have consistently earned Superior ratings at FBA performance events and placed at local and national performance events, including 1st place in class 3A Concert Band and Color Guard at the 2014 Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  The Marching Mantas are lead by Mr. Joshua Grossnicklaus, Director of Bands at Lemon Bay High School since 2009.

What Are We Raising Funds For?
We are currently raising money to take part in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, DC this summer.  Our projected total cost of the trip is nearly $80,000 and we have raised over $30,000 through fundraising and donations to date.  The goal of this campaign is to raise an additional $35,000 which will be used to help offset the overall cost of the trip for all students and chaperones.

What Is Involved In the Trip For the Students?
The cost for each student to attend is $789.00 and this includes all lodging, transportation, meals, and parade entry fees for the 5 days of our trip (July 1st-July 5th).  While in our nation's captial, students will visit our most famous national sites, including the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetary, and the Smithsonian Museums.  Additionally, we are using funds raised to purchase our parade music, instrument equipment, parade banners and flags for the event.

We hope that you will help support us and help to provide these wonderful and talented young people with an experience that they will remember for the entire lives!  For more information about the Lemon Bay High School Band program, please visit us at www.bandsoflbhs.com to learn more.
