Laura's Elephant Aid Trip

Donation protected
Hi!

I'm Laura Strickland-Clark, also known as Laura, The Explorer. I'm English, but currently living in New Zealand as I work and travel around the world.

During one of many planning sessions, having conversations with myself about where life was going to take me after New Zealand, I was researching Asia, primarily Thailand and Vietnam. One thing led to another, and I ended up reading about the mistreatment of elephants in these countries.

Tourists are so keen to get the travel photos with tigers and elephants and doing all the 'cool tourist' things, that they don't think about what these animals are being put through to make them 'tame and docile' enough for these experiences. These creatures are being drugged and beaten, abused and put through endless years of pain just so backpackers and tourists can get the opportunity to get that winning photograph.

This made me really unhappy. It was then that I learned about the Millenium Elephant Foundatioin in Sri Lanka. They are an organization that rescuse elephants from these conditions, take them to their site and look after them. They are fed, cleaned, treated for injuries and looked after in a safe and happy environment. Straight away, I realised that their volunteer programme would be where I was headed next.

Elephants are my favourite animal and they're majestic creatures. Their numbers in the wild have diminshed so much over the past years, due to ivory poaching and these tourist trips. If I can help make a difference to this, I want too.

The volunteer programme costs 267,000 rupees (£1400). I am asking you for donations to help me get there. I will be paying myself money on here as and when I can, but any help to get there is so greatly appreciated. None of the money raised here goes to me. It all goes to the Millenium Elephant Foundation. It just helps me cover the costs of the volunteer programme.

In advance, thank you so much for your generosity. It means the world to me and I know that it means we can make a big difference.

You can read up on the volunteer programme here: http://millenniumelephantfoundation.com/volunteer-program/.

Again, thank you.
